All Wrapped Up: A video blog by Isaac Caldiero

Is life  aroad trip? For MOON climber Isaac its not far from true.

The past fall, winter and spring seasons has been completely jammed pack into one giant road trip this year. We’ve been traveling from one place to the next with constant sending of classic problems along with new development at home crags in-between trips. After being to the Southeast of the U.S. for the first time, and digesting what it had to offer, its definitely changed my perspective as to what is worth developing and what is clearly not, back home. Seems like this sort of awakening is an amazing thing to frequent into the overall climbing experience, oh yeah and also the whole cultural difference was quite shocking. From the shift in humidity levels to the local banjo talk, it was like being straight out of the movie “Deliverance”. All in all it was one of the top road trips ever, there is a video on Moons Vimeo page here

The endless Utah potential

Continuing on through the holidays and the beginning of year, was none-the-less exciting after being in the South East. Over the past years of exploration in Utah, there seems to be an endless amount of potential that is stock piled in the back of my wee little mind. After browsing throughout the archives we pinpointed two very distinct areas both within the realm of Saint George, Utah. The first area known as the Zen caves, combines a very exciting approach with an elaborate array of caves and out of this world rock formations. The approach involves two wheels and a single track of dirt, I won’t tell you too much just check out the vid here at the Shibidaang Vimeo page http://vimeo.com/39709302

The overwhelming feeling that comes with developing new areas tends to be tiring at times, so we made a quick stint to one of my all time favorite areas only 6 hours away, Bishop California. Although the musty heat was clearly present this time of year, we pushed through. With our panties in a bunch, the skin shredding began quicker then a fly to a pile of steamy S&#!. The ongoing battle to keep fresh skin was nearly impossible, but by the end of the short trip we prevailed with some amazing repeats and glimpses of personal bests.

Now back in Utah, with a headful of inspiration, we have meandered towards one of Southern Utah’s best kept secrets… GRANITE. The last couple weeks have been devoured in an instant by developing new blocs left and right. The amazing collaboration of extremely well featured granite blocs, has thus yielded many of classic, powerful, pocket problems. I was fortunate enough to come out by the skin of my teeth with a couple of test pieces from the area, just barely in the brink of time before the heat arrived. While dodging mountain lions and mud tromping, we have been able to put up close to 50 unique problems in a couple weeks period of time.
